ANSU too protests non-Arunachalees’ appointment in Assam Rifles
ITANAGAR, Jan 29: Airing its strong protest over the reported job deprivation to Arunachalee candidates by the Assam Rifles, the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) today said that the country’s oldest paramilitary force’s refusal to absorb Arunachalees in its ST quota has deeply touched the sentiment of the indigenous people of the State.
It is alleged that Assam Rifles had recruited four non-APST candidates – three Chakmas and a Nepali – against the posts reserved for ST candidates in Arunachal Pradesh. The recruitment rally was held at Dimapur and Guwahati in September last year.
Seeking the State Governor and the Chief Minister’s intervention into the matter, the ANSU said, “It is not a good sign for the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh that Assam Rifles had appointed Chakma refuses and a Nepali guy in their service by diverting the scheduled tribe’s quota of Arunachal Pradesh.”
“We never expected of such kind of negligence by the major paramilitary force. Such things will not be tolerated. Moreover, since we never recognize Chakmas as citizens of India then how can the Assam Rifles appoint them against the quota meant for the people of Arunachal Pradesh? We demand the Assam Rifles to revoke the appointments.”
“We also demand the govt of Arunachal Pradesh and the civil society to come forward to safeguard the interest of indigenous people of the State. We further urge that Chakmas should not be granted ST status in our State, at any cost. State govt’s duty is to protect and promote its own people, not the foreigners,” added ANSU.
